Story Behind the Image
The best cowboy photographs aren't always about action.
Sometimes they're about what happens just before the action.
Standing near the branding pen, I noticed this moment developing. The cowboy stood ready while the calf was being brought into position. Dust hung in the air. Boots were planted. Everyone knew what was about to happen.
The image isn't about the calf.
It's not even really about the cowboy.
It's about readiness.
For generations, ranch work has been built upon anticipation. Reading cattle. Reading horses. Reading situations before they fully develop. Good cowboys learn to recognize what is about to happen before it happens, and then position themselves accordingly.
That's exactly what I see in this photograph.
The stance. The posture. The waiting.
The title, Bring 'Em To Me, seemed fitting because that's often the unspoken language of a working pen. One cowboy positions himself while another delivers the calf. Each knows their role. Each trusts the other to do their job.
In many ways, the image becomes a story about teamwork, timing, and the quiet confidence that comes from experience.
