Cowboy life isn't always about horses, cattle, and dust flying through the air. Sometimes it's about the little moments that happen in between.
While working around a Wyoming ranch, I noticed this ranch dog standing beside a water trough, wearing an expression that seemed almost human. The title, Brown and Blue, What To Do?, came from that look—a moment where the dog appeared to be studying the world and trying to figure out its next move.
The warm earth tones of the ranch contrast with the cool hints of blue in the background, creating a visual balance between the rugged environment and the thoughtful expression of the dog. The shallow depth of field isolates the subject while allowing the surrounding ranch equipment to provide context without distraction.
Dogs are often the unsung heroes of ranch life. They work alongside cowboys, move cattle, keep watch, and become trusted companions through long days and changing seasons. This photograph celebrates that relationship and reminds us that some of the best stories on a ranch don't involve people at all.
